LIBF Certificate – Financial Studies

 

What do I need to study the course?

You should have five GCSEs grades 9 - 4. You do not need to have studied Business before, but this course is suited to students who wish to learn how to make informed and confident decisions regarding their finances or are considering a career in the Financial Sector or a Business or Finance degree course.

 

What does the course involve?

In studying for the Certificate/Diploma in Financial Studies (CeFS), you will be encouraged to think about your personal finances and lifestyle aspirations and taught how to apply the appropriate solution(s) from the wide range available within the evolving Financial Services market place.  Progressing onto studying the role of Financial advisors and Accountants within the business sector at A Level.

 

The following AS units will be studied:

 

  • Unit 1 – Financial Capability for the Immediate and Short Term -
    • This unit will look at the role financial services can play in assisting life planning in the immediate and short term:
      • The Value & Purpose of Money;
      • Personal Life Cycle;
      • Payment Methods;
      • Current Accounts;
      • Savings Products;
      • Borrowing Products;
      • Finance Providers;
      • Consumer Protection;
      • Budgets & Forecasts;
      • Unexpected Events;
      • Dealing with Debt and Earnings
  • Unit 2 – Financial Capability for the Medium and Long Term -
    • This unit will study the ability to plan and manage money in the medium and long term:
      • Financial Decision Making;
      • Financial Aspirations;
      • Medium / Long Term Financial Needs;
      • Financial Risk & Rewards;
      • Selecting Financial Products & Getting Financial Advice.

 

What next?

The LIBF Certificate in Financial Studies is an ideal qualification for those students who want a broad background in Finance and provides access to a wide range of degree courses in higher educational establishments. Due to the practical nature of the course it is also highly valued by prospective employers.
