National Poetry Day on 8th October saw the launch of 'Word of Mouth' - Abbey Grange's very own spoken word poetry club - with a successful open mic session at lunchtime. We were joined by poet, Toria Garbutt and, of course, our very own poet in residence Miss Taylor. Poetry Day was also the launch of our online poetry competition. Congratulations to Aurelia (Yr9) and Alicia (Yr8) our joint winners. The Abbey Grange premiere of Alicia's poem was hosted in the Galeena Room on the Wednesday 2nd March. On the 3rd December, the winners of the contest along with runners up and our creative writing and spoken word poetry regulars, had the privilege of attending a workshop with published poet Kadijah Ibrahiim, the Creative Director of Leeds Young Authors. Students shared their work at another jam-packed open mic session that lunchtime. Spoken Word poetry is going from strength to strength at Abbey Grange and there are more exciting opportunities to come in the New Year. Students from all years are welcome to join us on a Thursday lunchtime in the upstairs Drama Studio.
