Mrs C. Kitson CEO/Exectuive Principal Strategic leadership, management and development of Abbey Academies Trust and Abbey Grange C of E Academy, including the development of partnerships and the securing of accountability Mr J. Norden Principal/Head of School Day to day leadership and management of Abbey Grange C of E Academy, including overall responsibility for standards and teaching and learning. Mr Norden started at Abbey Grange in 2010 when he was appointed to the post of Vice Principal. Before then he held senior leadership positions in two other West Yorkshire schools. Since September 2014, he has taken on the role of Principal, responsible for the day to day leadership and management of the academy, including overall responsibility for standards and teaching and learning.
Mrs J. Thornton Vice Principal Student Development and Curriculum (Enrichment) Mrs Thornton has worked at Abbey Grange since September 2014 and has responsibility for Student Development. (Pastoral, Behaviour and Attendance). In addition to this Mrs Thornton oversees the Enrichment Curriculum at KS4 which has a focus on the development of character education and the KS3 International Middle Years Curriculum, which focuses on thematic learning and developing student reflection. Mrs Thornton began her career as a teacher of Resistant Materials/ Information Communication Technology, moving onto subject leader of ICT and then Strategic Director of Technology Specialism. Prior to joining the teaching profession, Mrs Thornton was an Architectual Technologist, working on the detailed designs of buildings such as Bridgewater Place in the centre of Leeds.
Mr D. Whieldon Director of Academy Effectiveness, Abbey MAT T&L (overview), MAT role Mr. Whieldon started Abbey Grange as Curriculum Area Leader for English in September 2011, before joining the Senior Leadership team as an Assistant Principal; he is now responsible for teaching and learning with CPD as well as e-learning and is the research lead at Abbey Grange. Additionally Mr. Whieldon has a wider role across the Trust as with working senior leadership teams on academy effectiveness. Mr. Whieldon has had various positions of responsibility in different schools across Leeds and Bradford, as well as working as an ICT teacher adviser for Education Leeds. Before becoming a teacher Mr Whieldon worked in the production department for ITV in Manchester.
Mrs C. Clarke Assistant Principal Staff Development Mrs Clarke has worked at Abbey Grange since 1992, starting out as a part time Modern Languages teacher, before becoming a full time Head of Year and later Head of Student Development. She has been a member of the Senior Leadership team since September 2010, continuing to lead on Student Development (Pastoral, Behaviour and Safeguarding). In addition, this year the changes to the pastoral structure have enabled Mrs Clarke to take on the responsibility for overseeing the trainee teachers as part of The Arc Initial teacher training Cluster and also to coordinate the induction of new staff, in particular Newly Qualified Teachers.
Mr G Watson Assistant Principal Achievement and Inclusion Mr Watson has worked at Abbey Grange since September 2016 and has responsibility for the achievement of key groups and various enrichment activities. Mr Watson was previously Assistant Headteacher (Teaching and Learning) at Benton Park School, he has also worked as an Advanced Skills Teacher for Leeds City Council and has been a subject leader for Geography at two other schools.
Mr P. Golding Assistant Principal T&L Project Mr Golding has worked at Abbey Grange Academy since 2006, appointed as a Teacher of English before taking on the role of Post 17 Transition Coordinator and then becoming the KS4 Coordinator for English. In September 2014 he was appointed to his current role of Achievement Director for English.
Mrs S. Hanbridge Assistant Principal Curriculum Project Miss Hanbridge joined Abbey Grange in September 2012 as Subject Leader for Religious Studies. She joined the Extended Leadership Team in September 2015 in the role of Achievement Director for Core and EBacc, alongside her role as Subject Leader. She is responsible for student achievement, as well as standards of teaching and learning across this curriculum area for all key stages.
