Abbey Grange Academy continues to set a commendable standard in school attendance, surpassing citywide averages for secondary schools. According to data provided by Leeds City Council for the academic year 2022-23, Abbey Grange Academy's attendance rates remain above the Leeds citywide average, with persistent absence rates notably below the city average for secondary schools.
Led by Assistant Principal for Care and Conduct, Sarah Hudson Frost, our attendance team has implemented several effective strategies to support students with low attendance levels, reducing the number of persistent absentees. This commitment to prioritising attendance is evident in the active involvement of senior leaders who consistently support initiatives aimed at improving overall attendance.
Our proactive approach extends beyond addressing low attendance levels. We place a strong emphasis on celebrating good attendance, employing various rewards and acknowledgments to motivate students to attend school regularly. This positive reinforcement encourages students to strive for consistent attendance, contributing to the academy’s overall success in this area.
"Attendance is everybody's business," echoes throughout our academy, reinforcing the collective responsibility of students, staff, and parents in maintaining high attendance rates. Working together with our students’ families, we offer assistance and support when needed to foster positive relationships and promote open dialogue.
Our commitment to prioritising attendance and fostering a supportive environment for students and families is reflected not only in the numbers but in the positive impact on the school community. As they continue to set an example in attendance excellence, Abbey Grange Academy stands as a beacon for other institutions aiming to create a culture of regular attendance and academic success.
