Abbey Multi-Academy Trust is proud to be a 'talk-rich trust', where every child's voice is valued; this belief continues throughout Abbey Grange Academy, which is why our annual Oracy Day is so important to us.
We are committed to developing the vital skills of all our young people, to create a supportive culture of fluent and proficient communication within the academy. Activities ran throughout the day to help students recognise the importance their voices play in society.
Sessions covered the different elements to oracy including:
Physical - are students speaking loudly and clearly to make their voice heard?
Cognitive - what are their reasons for their opinions? Are they challenging their thoughts?
Linguistic - are they using ambitious vocabulary?
Social & Emotional - are they ensuring everyone’s voice is heard and respected?
Throughout Abbey Grange, students are encouraged to assess their own strengths and weaknesses alongside peers in classroom tasks and understand where they can improve their speaking and listening skills. Our focus on oracy provides students with the vital tools to excel and use their voices to shape the future.
